Unable to renew free for Edu license

I submitted a ticket 123812 to renew my Avast free for Edu license (Avast Endpoint Protection Suite) on 1/25/17.  I was told that it transferred to the EDU department.  I still have heard nothing. I logged into my Avast account and clicked renew your license and it just brings me back to the avast account home page.  Our subscription expires on 2/26/17 and we have it installed on hundreds of machines.  I've just read another forum post about migration to the cloud based product without reinstall/redeployment.

My guess is the problem is because the EDU license is not free anymore and that you just need to buy a new license.

Yes, it appears they want to move people to the cloud solution which is supposedly still free.  However, existing clients are supposed to be able to renew until they can migrate.  I can't get through to anyone.  Sit on hold no matter if I call sales or support.  Previous two years received email reminding me that license expiring and instructions to renew.  This year, no email and now this.  Leaving people scrambling. 

Just called for business sales and got voicemail after waiting on hold.

I've asked someone from avast to wake up the people at the department that are (should) handling this.

My recent experience is nearly identical to David1037's. After being told "Your request has been transferred to the EDU department, and they will be contacting you soon" nothing happened. However, when I replied to my ticket two weeks later I did get my license renewed "one last time for free".

"Good afternoon!

As a heads up we will renew the license file one last time for free as we have since revamped our Education program and unfortunately we are no longer able to offer this product for free after it expires in January of 2018. At that time, you will be entitled to a 50% education discount. I have sent the request to my Ops team to renew this now. Also, for your reference, your Account Manager is" (rest of message removed)


I've emailed back asking for some clarifications, but haven't heard back yet. If I get anything I will share it.

I finally ended up opening a new ticket in the portal and got a response.    License free for one year, 50% discount.  Tried to talk about moving to cloud and see if could do without reinstalling all of the clients.  I installed the cloud client and it didn't pick up the license or show up in the cloud dashboard.  Looks like would have to do complete uninstall/reinstall.

You can install on of the current versions but that does not always work and a complete uninstall then reinstall is necessary. Thanks.

Thank you. We didn’t get any notice that this would be changing. Or any means to renew. I understand there is a way to move to the cloud product without having to reinstall all of the clients?

I have the Avast Endpoint Protection Suite under the Free for Education Program and I have been trying to renew since 1/25. I never received an email this year with a link to renew. I emailed edu@avast.com and got a ticket 123812. I've attached the emails. I have not heard from anyone and our subscription expires in 13 days! This is installed on several hundreds PCs.

Did you try to contact Avast to see if they would renew it for free one last time since they didn't give any notice regarding the free product being done away with?

Kinda the same with the free cloud version.
Everyone had to find out him-/herself that is was gone. >:(

Only people who signed up for it when it still was free can still use it.
I wonder for how long though.

Communicating things with the users a decent time before things are changing is something that avast still need to learn.

I also did not know of the discontinuation of the AEA Console.  I did receive a new license key, but I must not have entered it correctly.
Now after expiration I am unable to logon to my AEA console on the server.  I get message "The server certificate does not seem to be valid!  Either it has an invalid signature or it is expired".
Not sure how to get past this.

As avast only provides a free version to "home users" now, only thing you can do (as I see it) is to contact their business support and hope they will help you.

This error is not a license error, rather the self signed certificate in the AEA console is expired. You can renew this using the AMS Maintenance tool (same tool used to enter your license)

AEA Console is still supported and sold.

If anyone is currently having this issue, try to renew the education license via logging into https://edu.avast.com , it will not work from https://my.avast.com/

That link goes to a page to buy the software. Perhaps if someone already has a license it would be different though.
