You can turn on generation of the Report file.
Start avast, go to the Settings, and click the Report category.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving's not for you.

There may be more reasons why the files were not scanned (they can be too small to contain a virus, for example) - but usually the reason is that during the runtime of the operating system, some files are simply not accessible - e.g. the swap file. There's no reason to worry about this one - it's not infectable anyway.

If you could post the content of the report file (i.e. the list of the files that were not scanned, together with what avast! announced exactly), we could tell a little more...

hi there
i found that the files which were not scannned were all zip archives
some were corrupt and some were  password protected
some files were just a backup of cookies and adware that was destroyed using Spybots S&D.
rest all fine
but the report file "simple user interface.txt"diplays list of files which are ok. i have all options checked in
 Menu > report .
i want the list for files which are NOT OK.
thanks for ur help
ash.

In the program Settings / Report file - you can configure what items will be included in the report.

Did you send the corrupted files (not the SpyBot ones because they're not corrupted but encripted as you know) to avast! team?
Maybe the [AsPack] ones interest to igor and the 'Internal Error' to pk...
Really infected ones to virus@asw.cz  ;)

They're nothing suspicious.  Just zip files I've downloaded over the years and never did work because they were corrupted.  I deleted them.  I really need to clean up my installation folder.  It is full of old archive files that I don't need any longer.

What a pitty... pk and igor would be happy to have your 'strange' and 'corrupted' files...

Well, you are right that an "old collection of strange files" may be very handy to test the robustnes of unpacking engines (creating a brand-new archives is not a problem, but where do you get corrupted files the users may occasionally have?).
However, transferring things like "installation folder" may be a little problem - sounds like it could be rather big.
