I remember this getting a lot of publicity some time ago as well, so it looks like it is rearing its head again.

Hi CharleyO,

It only demonstrates that malware is more and more used for criminal purposes. And especially the unaware are falling victim to it. What we need is educated users, more layers of protection,
in browser protection: security and safety add-ons, and very important a stricter certification is needed. Then we are still using completely outdated, and insecure protocols, as long as malware artists can hide malicious nodes inside headers for instance or tunnel vectors unseen inside to seek their way out, it sometimes seem like fighting with one hand tied behind our backs. But we are not that helpless, making a computer secure does not need a wizard or a geek. Just some common sense and the right tools/programs.
