« on: February 17, 2017, 05:10:48 PM »
Hi, after update to Free Avast 7.1 blocks Paint Shop Pro 9 (not X9 but 9)  running on Windows XP
switching off Avast (10 minutes, 1 hour, etc. doesnt help)
The process Paint ShopPro is visible in Task Manager window

the only way to run Paint ShopPro 9 again is to uninstalling Avast 7  or  to install previous version of Avast
any ideas ?

greetings,Piotr

I pretty sure avast has stopped supporting v8 and earlier. So v7.xxx is out of luck. Best thing to do is upgrade.
Dell Inspiron, Win10x64--HP Envy Win10x64--Both systems Avast Free v17.9.2322, Comodo Firewall v8.2 w/D+, MalwareBytes v3.0, OpenDNS, Super Anti-Spyware, Spyware Blaster, MCShield, Unchecky, Vivaldi Browser and, various browser security tools.

My bet is that it is a typo and piotrzyk means 17.1

A clue is that there never was a version 7.1 ;)

Found a old copy of PsP 9 (having a decent administration about what is on what cd/dvd really helps HaHaHa) and installed on W10 with avast 17.1.2286 latest build and it works without a problem.

Disable shields in avast one at a time and see if one of them is causing the problem.

I am still using Paint Shop Pro 9 quite often and have no trouble whatsoever in combination with Avast 17 (or any Avast version for that matter).

I have same problem. Avast is blocking not only Paint Shop Pro v9, but also and other Paint Shop Pro versions like X6. Disabling avast or even running windows in Safe mode does not help too. The only solution is to uninstall avast. After uninstall, program runs normally. I have newest Avast version and Windows 7 32 bit. I have this problem on two different PCs.

I have the same problem with Gimp--Avast blocks opening the program, plus (if I momentarily disable protection and turn it back on), it blocks opening any files). Disabling Avast solves this, as does disable the Behavior Shield. But of course this leaves me vulnerable.

I reported the issue to Avast and they sent back a message saying that they can't find a record of my account in their system, even though I've been using Avast for many years!

You can report a suspected FP here: https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php

Same problem with the brand new V17.2.2288 under Windows Vista.
I had to uninstall Avast to solve the problem  :-[

Disabling just the behavior could be enough.

Try Settings>Components>Behavior Shield>Customize>Exclusions, then browse to the program on the C drive and add it. I did this with programs like Sketchup and it worked. I still haven't solved the Avast blockage of all Windows applications and there is no response from Avast about the issue.
