Interesting to read what people are experiencing. I've been pottering about on FF all afternoon and haven't had a single detection (and I do have the problematic VPS installed), however when my quick scan ran it detected about 40 files, almost all of which of which are OS files, and they all have the same VBS:Malware Gen. I have not applied any action and am just awaiting the fix. Worried in the mean time it's going to corrupt my system even with no action taken, as I vaguely remember reading on the forum a while ago that avast will still block access to a file it has detected even if you choose do nothing. :/ I can leave the computer alone but it still does stuff in the background which I'm sure would involve some of those detected windows files.

I feel less anxious knowing that it isn't just me that is getting these avast warnings. I had thought I had some kind of virus that was redirecting all my browsing (I'm using Mozilla firefox)  :-\

My Malwarebytes scan didn't pick up anything, but avast picked up around 48 objects, but I suppose those are all false positives. I did a good thing not deleting any of those detections...?

I was freaking out and trying to clean my PC. Did a full pc scan and found ~92 infected files after scanning 6% so i panicked and started a boot time scan.

Needless to say it "cleaned" over 3 THOUSAND files before i found this post on my phone and stopped it. Is my PC toast? Any chance to undo a lot of the damage?

I tried to do a system restore but it failed. :(

How do i get the latest VPS? I tried updating virus definitions through avast and it didn't work?

So just open the chest and restore everything that was put in there today? Doesn't it automatically delete things it can't move? How many of those 3k+ files are never coming back  >:(

Thanks for the help.

You can only get the new VPS after avast has released it, just have some patience and wait till they have done so.

Got a reply from vlab: A vps with this detection disabled is already being rolled out
A full vps or just streaming update?
That's all I know, but it sounds more like a full vps update.
Confirmed, should be out in around 1 hour or less.

Still can't see any update here http://download.ff.avast.com/lin/x86_64/vps9/

it is NOT just Avast.....

Avast, AVG, Malware bites, Kaspersky, etc all showing up with same symptoms.
it is NOT your AV. it's a problem with java, or windows, or chrome
still researching

The new VPS (170222-00) should contain the fix. Can you (who are affected) try updating VPS and letting me know if there is still an issue or not?

This was a major f... up!

At least my issue is limited to Opera giving out warnings every 5 minutes. Still hasn't deleted anything or quarantined files on disk (i've checked in quarantine). But i still haven't full scanned or anything. And i'm not going too...
