email being marked as spam when it isn't
« on: February 24, 2017, 10:48:56 PM »
Hi everyone.

I've had a couple of emails arrive from ebay@eBay.co.uk which have been tagged with [spam] in the header.  These were not tagged by the mail checker at my host as they have checked at their end AND they tag with ***[spam]*** (i.e. with the three *).

I've just checked and now emails from other valid sites such as Expedia are being tagged as well.

Why has this started happening and how do I stop it?

This is within Outlook for Mac, running Avast program version 12.5.2ac865de9f01

Avast does not modify the subject of emails. All it does with the headers (additionally to deleting* the infected attachments) is adding two extra headers:
  • X-Antivirus (containing the VPS version)
  • X-Antivirus-Status (either clean, infected or not-tested)

* on the client, the emails on the server are never modified.
