Meh, I think companies are beginning to see a lot of choices, and there seems to be a sharp rise in competition (opensource, google) which hasn't seen before. I foresee two options; first microsoft takes the notice that people are realizing they aren't confined to one choice and begins to put more effort into their operating system that gives users benefits - out of charity (seriously, think about that for a minute, I know it is weirdly worded). The other option would be simply the slow downsizing of Microsoft's monopoly into a more competitive market (long-term).
