Avast behavior shield absolutely needed?
« on: March 07, 2017, 12:17:16 AM »
Since the last update, the behavior shield has turned all of my steam library and most of my applications unable to run, getting 0x000005 errors all the time.

At first i was disabling all of the shields to get my games running, and adding exception routes, later, i decided to test the shields one by one and the behavior shield was the one to blame, adding exception routes to it does nothing, and setting options to "ask before acting" neither works, games start up just fine with it disabled, if i enable it, i can't do nothing at all.

So, question is, there is any fix for this? Or should i just keep the Behavior Shield disabled?

Have you tried excluding the file/s in the Behaviour Shield settings (Customise) ?
Error 5 = Access is denied.

I think that in the time the Behaviour Shield is examining the activity, the game function/server times out.

The behaviour shield is likely to play a greater part in protections as it isn't looking for specific malware signatures, but suspect activity.

Have you checked to see if Game Mode is enabled it should be on by default if you have a compatible OS ?

It is a known problem that the behavior shield has problems with many applications.
You hope ofcourse it doesn't, but it is a brand new technology from/for avast.
avast need to "tweak"  things better.

In the mean time, set a exclusion if there is a problem with a application.
If that is not working, disable the behavior shield.

Keep an eye on the new (beta) releases to see what fixes they have.

Well, been using avast since 2006 i belive without the behavior shield, that i don't use it now shouldnt be much of an issue, unless the behavior shield is critical for the live protection.

Well, live protection contains several components and the behavior shield is one of them.
Disabling it is reducing the protection.

See it as a house with stones missing.
The house will still stands, but it will not be as strong is it could be.
