New Version Over 20 Minute Boot Time
« on: March 06, 2017, 05:51:15 PM »
Since installing the new version my PC becomes unresponsive for over 20 minutes after start-up. My PC usually takes 5 minutes or so to completely boot. I unchecked the rootkit boot scan but that didn't solve anything.

If this is a problem that can't be simply corrected can someone please link me to the most recent version before this one so I can reinstall.

Thanks

I'd suggest doing a clean install.

1.Download your version of avast!, the avastclear tool and save them to the desktop:

Avast Free Antivirus
Avast Pro Antivirus
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier

Download Avast Clear Tool

2. Uninstall Avast in Control panel  [If you don't have Avast in control Panel go to #3]
3. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear. [Running Avastclear is normal mode will give a prompt to go into Safe Mode]
Check : Once uninstalled check in device manager>view>show hidden devices if there is anything related to avast with a yellow triangle.. if so, uninstall it and reboot.
5. Install the version you downloaded.
6. Reboot.

Paid: If you have a paid license, insert the license key/activation code after the reboot at stage 6.
Windows 10 Home 64-bit • Avast Free (latest stable version) •  Malwarebytes 4 Premium (On-Demand) • Windows Firewall Control • Google Chrome • LastPass • CCleaner • O&O ShutUp10 •

That it started happening immediately after installing the new version and thereafter.

I'd suggest doing a clean install.

Any chance you can link me to the version before this new one?

Thanks

Avast doesn't retain old versions only the current version.

You can try some of the download sites, but some of those also only download the latest version.

I uninstalled, custom installed just the three shields and booting is back to normal. Thanks for all the replies, especially Alikhan.

You're welcome.

For sure a custom install is the way to go, I do that for virtually every program I install. That way you get an idea of what it wants to do and you can remove the features/functions that you don't need/want.

I think customizing an install of any program is something most people don't want to fool with understandably but it's something they should look into here.

Thanks again.
