What is AVLaunch.exe and why is it auto loading?

I know it is an Avast component, but what does it do? And can i remove it from auto-starting without dramatic things happening?

If i should guess from the name it would be what start (launch) your AV at computer start, or opens up the AV gui when you click the icon

it is called from Program files -> Avast software -> avast -> AvLaunch.exe  /gui

I try and keep as many autorun prgrams down to a min., use the least amount resources.
