Change the Activate button behavior after new version update. After the installation of the new version of Avast, you restart the machine. Upon booting up you get this box which welcomes you to the new version.

There is then a big green "Activate" button. Which some might think they should click to "Activate the free version". They think this because after installing Avast free for the first time they must click a green "Activate" button inside Avast to activate the free version. This time when you click the Activate now button it starts a process to switch the user over to the Internet Security 30 day trial" ... this feels extremely deceptive.

I think the green Activate button should AT LEAST give you the option to choose between the free or the paid.

I don't see that changing.

The user needs to read what action they are taking. If they choose the trial, during the trial or when it finishes, they can revert back to the free version.

Sorry I'm with the OP on this the Activate button is misleading/confusing, when it comes directly after a program update.

It should be clear that it is for Activating the Trial and not Activating the program update you have just installed.

This really is no different to one of the avast ads 'Activate Firewall' some may thing that 'their firewall' needs activating, not that you are talking a path to the Upgrade to a paid avast version with a firewall.

Your image URL doesn't display in the post. Using the posts reply/quote I copied the image location, however, trying to connect to it results in an error page.

No still the same, I have RequestPolicy add-on and that seeks permission for redirection and that URL sees a redirection to the s.yimg.com/pw/images/en-us/photo_unavailable.png.  Allowing the redirection just displays the error.

You can attach imaged to your posts, when using the reply window click the 'Attachments and other options' to attach your image.

And the 'No thanks - close this window,' could do with being more prominent and a button rather than text (side by side with equal prominence.

The changes you suggest make it more simple for sure but I almost certain they won't change that due to business reasons.

Exactly, their profits would take a nose dive. What's evident from the Green activate button is that part of their business relies heavily on the  "uneducated user", who when prompted to will accidently install the Internet Security Version and then when the 30 days expire will buy it because they think they have too.

That is certainly their choice and business.

But do you think people fooled/tricked into getting the trial version are going to be happy with that and actually follow through and pay for it.

Am I really that out of touch with the average person on how they view these things.

If they did happen to purchase after the trial I hope they have their eyes open for the auto renewal/payment side also.

I'm sorry but I don't see what's so misleading with this button ???

It definitely mentions a trial and below the option to close the window.
I may not like the fact that the ad is there but I can't find anything misleading about it.

There is nothing with that image, if only that was the button on the avast screen, but this is a mock up by the OP of what it 'should' look like for clarity.

The real button just has Activate and how many think that relates to activating your FREE version.

Here's the actual from the video I made:

It still states it's a trial and if you're not interested, use the No thanks option.
Granted, the one the user created would certainly be a lot clearer but that's not usually what happens.  :(
