Fixes in for RealPlayer flaws

RealNetworks has warned of four flaws in its media player software, three of which pose a severe security risk.

The Seattle-based digital media company released patches on Thursday to fix the problems. The bugs affect older versions of its flagship RealPlayer as well as of Rhapsody, Helix Player and RealOne Player. They aren't found in the most recent versions of RealPlayer and Rhapsody, according to a company advisory. The flaws are found in RealNetworks' software for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux systems.

It's a must for streaming radio/video content from the BBC, so I'm sure it's used a bit on this side of the pond, and also by listeners/viewers to the BBC World Service plus ex-pats abroad of course.

JetAudio takes care of that for me without Real.
For those that do use RealPlayer, the fix is welcome news.

Thanks Bob, I would imagine JetAudio has a much smaller foot print and doesn't try to take over your system when you install it like Real Player does. I'll have a look at that for the odd time that I need Real Player, I don't need everything that comes with Real.

Looks like it will cover Real and WMP also which would be nice.

Very large download for dial-up though, looks like a like night after midnight already

That is what I did not like about Realplayer many years ago ... it takes over everything!

I just checked the update information and it requires a FULL download even when you have 10.5 but an earlier build, this is the pits, even worse than what it used to be with firefox before they included incremental updating; at least firefox wasn't a big download.
