The best applications you've tested...
« on: March 16, 2006, 07:26:41 PM »
As we already have The worst applications tested... topic, I thought it might be usefull to open this topic. Post here your comments and opinions about worth-to-have freeware (or even shareware if you want) apps. I can be not only security-related apps  ;) Just opinions, and NO COMMERCIAL  ;D And Tech, I hope your idea was not copyrighted  ;D

All my best votes goes to avast! antivirus. It is software you most-to-have!  ;D

Another program I found usefull is AlfaClock Freeware.

Hello my forum friends,

The best I have tested is actually a plug-in, a tiny little add-on in IE, FF, and Flock browsers. For me it is the DrWeb hyperlink pre-scanner plug-in. A lot of free service in-browser protection.
It gave me the secure feeling back of knowing what I would find after clicking a hyperlink, second to that siteadvisor plug-in that tells me of millions of sites what amount of spam I could expect on sending an e-mail there, what kind of ad- or spyware links a site have, and why reviewers want me to go there or want me to shun a particular site. In-browser security has a future for me.

No doubt, number one on my list is Avast!    :D

But also, my other security software has saved my computers many times. See below ... and recently Ewido since this computer is XP ... plus DrWeb and SiteAdvisor browser plug-ins.    :)

Best of choice in my books....

Broswer: Could it be... Maxthon  ;)

Anti-Spyware: Would have to be... Lavasoft  ::)

Anti-Virus: Of course Avast  :-*

Firewall: Not the Firewall person so... it's Windows Firewall from Sp2. No surprise but I go with my Router Firewall  ;D

One nice little app I like is the free scientific calculator Calc98.

Another is NetMeter. It not only shows you graphically how speedy your download/upload is, but helps you pick which server to use for your downloads when you have a choice. Some are faster than others.

Avast is my all time favourite, closely followed by Kerio firewall. I really like Ewido and Spybot Search and Destroy too. If I could just get Dr Web to work with Opera I'd be a happy camper. (But I'm happy anyway ;>) - the contract's finished)

I'm about to try the latest version of Open Office on my laptop. If anyone has any tips, hints or cautions, please advise.

Happy Days to all

Well.  ;D
Open Office is rather cool. Still finding all its features but the word processor works as well as  MS Word. Totally free too.

I also forgot to add that Opera browser is another of the best apps I have tried.
