HI,
If you look at the last image, No 4, it gives the detail of the scan. In this case, there is no problem.

“NB” I understand that in theory while clicking on detail, the scan should not start again, but it is not the case? However I have make this post to help
to reduce the problem which does not seem to be regulated, and to show that we can nevertheless manage to conclude.

it was not about start or not start again but rather for people to have a real detailed log of kind of problem.
You have no problem so your N4 picture is not a detailed log (just a main info)

Agree, the procedure of clicking "x" is a by-pass working solution to stop renew (It seems to me that this solution has already been proposed?) but that does not prevent when you say

I repaired Avast 17.3.2290, restarted computer - normal, Behaviour Shield was on. Then I was notified that Avast needed to be updated. Clicked on 'update', 2291 was installed, restarted computer - normal, Behaviour Shield was on. Turned computer off then on again - "Your system is not fully protected", Behaviour Shield was not on.

Go to AvastUI | Settings | Components and make sure that Behaviour Shield is green. Restart Windows immediately after making the change and it should/might stick.

That seems to have done the trick......3 more normal boot ups: "Your system is secured" with Behaviour Shield on.  When I checked Components, Behaviour Shield did have a red 'off' cross beside it, which I had to turn on.

Thank you very much to all who guided me through the troubleshooting process.

One thing to mention when I open Avast through the desktop icon or tray icon 'Open Avast user interface' it is abnormally slow to load.......when I open it through the tray icon 'About Avast' it opens immediately?

Other than that all that I've tried / use seems to be working well, thank you Avast, would hate to lose this software and have the nightmare of finding another of the same standard that is compatible with my system......

The turning the shields off and back on that I previously had a problem with in an earlier program version is working perfectly.

I was going to suggest that ffsta and Vladimir_, the other XP users who are having problems, contact Avast directly / submit a ticket, as I was once advised to do here, but after searching it seems that Avast are no longer providing direct support for the free version - is this correct?

Seems there are a possibile BUG that not allow Avast to update version if password settings protection is set.

After updating to latest version, Avast Free UI won't load, if I rightclick icon in system tray bar, UI will pop up for half second then disappears again to system tray bar. It says I'm protected, but I can't access UI. Anyone know how to get around this problem? I tried to reinstall it, but it's still the same.

Do u try repair?
Repair Avast:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Avast
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

It simply means that David has had more time to spend on this forum than I.
He has answered a whole lot more users questions than I. David was also the first one to answer my original
question that I posted here back in 2003.

Yes, just avast users helping other avast users.

Back then I was self-employed working from home with more time.

What started me off was asking a question that was promptly answered by another avast user. So from then I tried to help were I could and the rest as they say is history.

I've had this problem for some time and did speak to Avast directly about it.
 
Boot time is extremely slow.......currently the hard drive activity light is full on for 25 minutes from the point I turn my computer on (worst it's been) - my computer is unusable until the hard drive activity light drops. There seems to be very heavy scanning activity going on.
 
Avast tec suggested I check under Troubleshooting - 'Load Avast services only after loading other system services' and this does help somewhat, but leaves my computer at risk.
 
How about if I uncheck under Troubleshooting 'Enable rootkit scan on system startup' and 'Enable raw disk access during Avast boot-time scan' and just check / run these once a week? Or is there anything else I can uncheck?
 
Not ideal I know, but can't be waiting 25 minutes every time after turning my computer on.
