If I have the web shield active, Console is flooded with messages like these:

Hi,
Those are debug messages from the web shield, that it could not connect to the given address. The
webshield works as a transparent proxy, so the origin of those connections is some process on your Mac.
In other words - something is repeatedly trying to connect to 127.0.0.1:80 (the local machine) but nothing
is aparently running there.

You may find the origin using netstat, wireshark or similar network analyzer tool.

Thanks a lot for your help!. I thought that it was com.avast.proxy what was trying to connect to 127.0.0.1 on port 80.

Using Activity Monitor I've been able to see what non essential processes where sending packets. Killing WondershareHelper (in ~/Library/Application Support/Helper/Wondershare Helper Compact.app) those messages disappear from Console.

Im going to force a revival of this topic.

My MacBook starts freezing several times a day. I found out that the last entry in system.log is always:

Oct 12 17:39:03 MyName-MBP com.avast.proxy[270]: net: Error connecting to 112.124.58.65:80: Operation timed out

I have read about this netstat stuff. But I am a newbie, I have really no idea how I can find out which service/app makes the problem. Is there anybody who can help (in a way that I can understand it).

you have revived a very old post that is not relevant for you. The log message simply says that Webshield could not connect to a certain website on behalf of your browser or another application. This is normal and happens all the time. It is very unlikely that this is the cause of your computer freezing.
