« on: March 14, 2006, 11:22:33 AM »
Hi,

I want to upgrade my computer to windows xp professional from windows xp home sp2.
But I get the following error:

This is my computer info...

What is the solution for this?

Thanks,

Hi henryjl,
Since the XP Pro is probable an original CD, it contains neither SP1 or SP2 and,
therefore, is considered older than your current operating system.
You only have 2 choices.
1 start all over again and install XP Pro  and all of the updates and re-install
any software that has part of it's installation in the windows folder   or,
2 stick with Win XP Home edition.

So I should backup the stuff I need on my computer first and format it right?
Umm I'm not very good in computer etc but do I have to have a CD to reinstall my graphic card, C Drive, D Drive + More drives because my computer came with all these SD card slot thingos, and all the softwares it came with?

In my opinion unless you want to setup a Network of computers shenryjl your probably better with XP Home.
If you do want to proceed with the change there's an application you can download called " Autopatcher" which has all the MS updates, plus some extras , except you need to download SP2 first, I think.

I don't know if this will work but why not try to uninstall SP2?

Before you do anything it is a very good idea to backup all your stuff.

But I would like to know why you want to upgrade from home to pro?

Hello,

Ok try this. Put the CD in then turn off your computer boot from the CD (to do this you may need to change the bios) when th CD has successfully loaded press enter. Go through the steps it asks but when you get to the partitioner delete the current windows partition and create a new one then install Windows XP Pro on the new partition.

Never mind about that question  ;) I figured it out.

Now I have tried doing the install but there is 3 options for the partition part.
1. HP_PAVILION (C:)
2. HP_RECOVERY (D:)
3. New Partition or something like that.

I entered the HP_PAVILION (C:) partition but then it says that it found Windows XP Home installed on that hard drive and recommends me not to install 2 Windows XP on 1 partion and told me to go to this website to read more about it http://www.microsoft.com/windows/multiboot.asp or install it into another partition (BTW the website says that it has been moved).

How can I remove Windows XP Home SP2 from HP_PAVILION (C:) and install Windows XP Professional 2002 on HP_PAVILION (C:) drive?

Thanks,

Henry

Recommends me not to install 2 Windows XP on 1 partion
Sure, this is more than recommended, you'll mess your installations...

How can I remove Windows XP Home SP2 from HP_PAVILION (C:) and install Windows XP Professional 2002 on HP_PAVILION (C:) drive?
Using the Windows Pro CD you must boot from it (you must change the boot sequence into the BIOS settings).
You'll boot, format the C and install XP Pro from the beginning. Or, boot, update your Home installation to Pro one.
