I received my invitation today and put it to work.
A friend treated us to a little dessert last night and I just happened to have my camera with me.... ;D ;D

For those of you with questions, the following site offers answers:
http://webaccelerator.google.com/support.html

Unfortunately it doesn't answer the question I raised about Webshield. :'(

Please open the WebShield configuration page, unclick the "Ignore local communication" check box, and into the "Redirected HTTP Ports" add the value 9100, separated by comma from the other values.

E.g.:
80,9100

That should enable the scanning of the content trasfered between Google WebAccelerator proxy and the browser.

Gmail lets you open Word attachments in Google Docs
Instead of downloading that attached Word document, especially if it's "a keeper",
you should try opening it with the brand new Gmail feature available today.
It lets you import any attached Microsoft Word document directly into Google Docs with a single click.
The "View as HTML" option still exists, but should probably only be used for documents you intend to view infrequently.

I came across a somehow funny video when I was browsing Google video (If I remember correctly, they bought YouTube while back, didn't they?) introduced in this thread.

While wondering if I should take it Google's propaganda or their self-made satire, personally, I had a good laugh while watching it.  If you like Woody Allen, you may like it.  Here, Barry Schwartz is talking of a liberating choice of abandoning choices (to the agent ex machina?).  ;D

Google to begin showing videos on main results page

Google to begin showing videos on main results page
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 05.17.2007

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — In its latest technological leap, online search leader Google Inc. will begin showing videos
on its main results page Wednesday along with photos, books and other content previously separated into different categories.
Under a new "universal search" approach that Google began rolling out Wednesday afternoon,
some requests will produce more than just a series of links and snippets pointing to other Web sites.

As a dial-up user that is all I sodding need a bandwidth intensive search engine. The major thing that attracted me to google was the clean lines and lack of clutter. Looks like it could be time to start using Scroogle Scrubber, that strips the c**p out of google searches, the page layout is butt ugly but it will be fast. Perhaps someone will find a way to skip to page two of the results missing the c**p.

The increased emphasis on video also could alienate some longtime users who revere Google for its traditionally staid results page.

It will certainly alienate me.

I second what David posted above. I do not need nor want such junk in my search results.    :(

It may be time to start using Sputtr so that we can choose what search engine is best to use.

I thought that was the point of reading the article in the link you gave "Full details available at:".

Whilst at present the "I have a dream" has only three images on the first page of my search, I personally believe this will eventually be the thin end of the wedge with many more images as google improves/uses its vast database. I at least welcome the fact that they wont be attempting to stream and video, but require user input. I am however still concerned about any increase in image content on the page/s. I even use google's preferences (not concerned with tracking, etc.), yet there isn't an option to display images or disable images in the search.

Other Google results will more frequently show photos or information from the more than 1 million books that the company has copied during the past two years. More news stories and local information pertaining to search requests will be displayed on Google's first results page — perhaps the most prized showcase on the Web.

Google's database has included photos, books, videos and local information for several years, but fetching the content usually required searching through one of the customized channels featured in a row of links above the main query box.

Download the Google Screen-saver Without Installing Google Pack
The screen-saver in Google Pack paints your screen with an attractive and varying collage of photos from a folder of your choice. However it's hardly worth the effort of installing the massive Google Pack just for the screen-saver.
See here how can you install just the screen-saver alone: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/03/google-screensaver.html
The best things in life are free.
