'Unreputable browser toolbars found' Nothing coming up
« on: April 04, 2017, 10:46:38 PM »
No idea if this is where I post this but oh well.

I keep getting this pop-up saying 'unreputable add-on' or 'Unreputable browser toolbar found' But when I click on it it comes up blank. It just has
'Add on'      'Reputation'

But nothing comes after it. Even if I click 'remove all' nothing happens. So I started ignoring it.

Does anyone know if this is a glitch or something and if so how to fix it

Thank you!

Hello,

I am also getting this pop up on a regular basis and it has a Green box (which is ticked), Add ON and then Reputation.

However, I try to Remove All and nothing happens. If I un tick the box and say remove all, the same, nothing happens. I just end up having to press the Skip button.

IF Avast has found something, why will it not remove it ?

It is VERY annoying, can someone (preferrably from Avast) explain please.

Kieran

Also check the BCU log file to see if there is more information in it about what it has found (or not).

Same problem with Avast saying there is a Reputation Toolbar but the only thing even remotely like that is a Firefox plug-in from Avast called Avast Online Security.

I've attached a screen shot of the Avast message and there is no way to remove the "toolbar" regardless of the status of the checkbox.  So eventually I just skip the message.  This has been going on for months.

Has anyone found a resolution to this, I have having the same issue on all of my computers that I have avast installed on. This on top of the constant adds that I get from avast now is making me consider using a different AV provider.

Do you people have a license for CleanUp or are you using the standalone version of the BCU ?
Did any of you even looked in the log file to see what was detected ?

I have Avast Premium license, which includes BCU.

And I do not know where the logfile is for BCU. But shouldn't the BCU popup tell me what was detected?

I have still not found any resolution to this, nor any information in scan history.  And of course Avast pop-up ads are always occurring as you mentioned.

How about giving him the location of that log file so he can solve the problem ???

I would agree, time to put-up or shut-up.

This is almost taunting users seeking information and that is what we are seeking to do. I Have never used the installed the browser clean up component, so I wasn't in a position to offer any help.

@  zeldatp151, etc.
I have since installed the BCU from the avastUI and now run a Smart Scan as that runs the BCU scan if you have it installed. On completion of the smart scan it has created/modified a log file for each component scan run by the smart scan.  I looked in the avast report and avast log folders in the hope of finding the relevant log, it is in this location, C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\Browser-Cleanup.log.

For me I didn't have any BCU detections (I didn't expect too), but if you can find this log you may get some information. Whilst this may not be directly the circumstances you as there is one option in the BCU settings to run the BCU 'Check my browsers regularly for toolbars with bad user ratings.' I think that this scan that is reporting this.

The closet I can find to a log file is the path C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\x64\DATA\log and there is no log file.  I actually did a search in file explorer for "log".

So as far as I can tell none of the support answers are relevant and Avast has some problem by continuing the report this phantom toolbar.  It would be nice if the company actually had an answer.
