The closet I can find to a log file is the path C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\x64\DATA\log and there is no log file.  I actually did a search in file explorer for "log".

So as far as I can tell none of the support answers are relevant and Avast has some problem by continuing the report this phantom toolbar.  It would be nice if the company actually had an answer.
It's there just look in the right place:

Remember that ProgramData is a hidden file so you may need to change your settings to find it.

Where the log file is depends on the OS that is used.
Some possible locations are:
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\report\
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report\

You might need to enable "show hidden and system files" before you can see them.

I am using the free version of Avast.  I found the log folder but it only has Amsi in it.  There are no other files in the log folder.  There is a BrowserCleanup file in a different directory but this only a configuration settings file, not a log file.

Unless you are using the free version of Avast on current version of Windows 10 you may not see the issue we have been describing.

My screenshot is from Windows 10 using the free version of Avast.

I wasn't looking for hidden files.  Yes there is indeed Avast-Browser-Cleanup as well as Avast-Browser-Cleanup-silent, Avast-Browser-Cleanup - silent.old and Avast-Browser-Cleanup - trace.  A brief text search did not find any mention of "tool" or "toolbar" or "Unreputable" that I could find.

That is because the in the logs "toolbar" isn't always used.

Any hint in the message as to the name or code associated with the toolbar in question ???

If you look at my post from May 4:

You can see a screen capture of the message warning that I and other users have seen.  I have no other information about this and could find no reference in the log files after a brief text scan of them.

Don't search them for text, open them and read them.
