Hi I have installed Avast free 2 weeks ago and not yet registered it. I check today and it seems to self registered itself yesterday for a year. Whats gong on here?

IDK I was thinking something is off, like a super Trojan replacing my unactivated version with backdoored  activated version.

It does this, otherwise user would not receive updates at which point, use of AV makes no sense. And since it costs nothing, it auto registers itself. It's not like you were charged anything...
