strange advertising from Avast => IMPORTANT
« on: April 14, 2017, 11:14:14 AM »
Hi,

just today I get a very strange advertising from Avast:

OS is Windows 10, Avast is Free 17.3.2291.

Avast opens a window advertising a "new update" with "more Avast power" blablabla.

This window is always located in the foreground and overlaps everey other window. I cannot work

with my computer !!!
This window cannot be closed, the only button goes to a Chrome installation which I don't want.
I have to kill it with the task manager.

What do those guys at Avast think about their customers? Cattle in the corral to throw around?

Test objects without an own will?

STOP that or I will finish using Avast immediately!

Looks like he already tried, but the link points to a file on his drive as it seems.

The window might not close but you should be able to uncheck the Chrome options, I always do as and when I see them.

Though I have to ask why you would want to close the window, isn't it a notification of an update, rather than an advert ?

You don't say what your program update settings are as they changed to automatic update (like the VPS) some time ago. You can set it to Ask or Manual if you don't want auto program updates.

Install Unchecky. This is a awesome program that will uncheck any unwanted/ optional programs that you don't want to use. It will only allow you to install the main program.

Unchecky is a great program but doesn't work on this since it's not part of the original update or install.

It says "a new update is ready".

That's the point, thx, David. I set it now from auto to manually.
Originally I wanted to stay with V12 as long as many problems are reported here. And I really don't want more program updates until V17 is stable.
On my desktop V12 works fine. Don't know how the change to V17 could appear in my notebook.

Thx, problem solved at this moment. But I'm upset by this hardcore pressing to unwanted installations. If this goes on, I deinstall or go back to an older Image that had V12 running.

P.S.
my first try to attach the screenshot was with the button "insert picture", just below "B" for bold. Didn't work - what is the use of it?

You're welcome.

The "insert image" icon works for on-line images, it can't go and access your system to 'get the image', only images already on the internet can be fetched and inserted.

The Attachments and other options function just allows you to upload it to the avast forums image store. If you right click on the image you can see that it is stored in the avast forums.
