877-767-5509 Virus
« on: April 19, 2017, 07:27:15 PM »
I have been a subscriber to Avast Internet Security for a few years now. Recently I have repeatedly gotten the 877-767-5509 virus pop-up on my computer. You get a window and a recording saying call this number now.  Your computer has been infected and to have it removed you need to call this number, etc.  Just trying to get rid of the pop-up can be tricky for those inexperienced users. My question to you people is, how is Avast even letting this into my computer?  Do I not have something set correctly?  I had to use Spyhunter to get rid of this because your program certainly does not do it.  Let me know if you need further information.

I am running Windows 7 on a Gateway 4300X Desktop QuadCore.
Program Version: 17.3.2291 (build 17.3.3443.0)
Virus Deifnitions: 170419-2
Number of definitions: 6.299.738

Thanks for any help you can be.

It is not a virus, it is a HTML:FakeAlert  >>  https://myonlinesecurity.co.uk/some-videos-of-typical-tech-support-scams/

If you have the URL avast can add it to URL block

AdwCleaner should clear your browser > https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/
If still a problem, follow instructions Eddy gave link to

So sorry!  I thought this was the correct forum to post in.  I didn't see any others that looked appropriate.

I guess my real question/concern was why didn't Avast stop or block this initially?  Doesn't Avast do this?

No security program have 100% detection or zero false positives, if they did there would not be a internet malware problem

If somone had reported this URL to avast it would have been added to url block. They usually have short life before taken down, and then they popup another place
