Timeout on Specific Server
« on: April 20, 2017, 11:26:07 PM »
We are experiencing time outs when on our own remote server. We build and host websites. But I think I have pinpointed why. We use Avast virus/firewall and have for 10 years or so, however, since the last update (17.3.2291 - Build 17.3.3443.0) we have had this problem. When I use another computer in the building that has not had the latest upgrade (17.2.2288 Build 17.2.3419.64) the server works fine without interruption. Also, when I disable Avast, both here and at home, I am able to work without issues.

It seems that after I am on the server and in WordPress and go into an area that allows uploads, the server times out - even email does not work. Eventually, the connection returns, only to repeat the time out. So there must be some setting either on the server or within Avast that causes the problem.

Any suggestions?

17.2.2288 is not the latest version, Avast 17.3.2291 is.

Please post in the correct forum next time do some (re)search before posting.

The problem is very likely is caused by the bug in the port scan functions as has been mentioned in a lot of threads already.
Disable it and see if everything is working.

Thanks for the timely response.

However, I had to jump through hoops to find out how to turn off the scan - a little more info on your response as where to go would be appreciated. Hopefully the bug be fixed soon?
