Hello Eddy(who tried to help me with this issue) and anyone who might like to try this if UI not responding/working  :)

''Make sure Terminal Services is set to Automatic ''  :)

Brief History below just for info:

UI not responding or responsive in AvastFree

Tried loads of suggestions re uninstalling, reinstalling, manually and with Avast tools......no joy.

Sort of gave up.

Tried a couple of other AV's, one of which I didn't like at all and also tried AVG............and guess what..........I had the same problem with AVG, so I thought I might as well go back to Avast and do some more searching for a possible solution.

I ran Task Manager and looked under processes to try to get more understanding of what might be the issue, though not really knowing what I was looking for.............I clicked through all the tabs in TM and when I got to USERS I thought it was a bit odd that there were no users listed!

I googled, as you do and found the suggestion about terminal services to resolve the User issue, and in doing this, it resolved the UI issue, for me, in Avast!

(For some reason mine had gotten, or was at some point, disabled, and I was unaware of this)

Voila

Hello,
I know the search function is pretty bad here but I had already reported this strange problem.

I do not know if the service was deactivated before and that avast needs it in its last version (without doubts because of the UI in the form of Web site) or if it is the installation of avast that Has closed the service.

Hi Chris,

I didn't find your possible solution when I was originally searching here for help.

It is interesting, that for both of us, it was indeed the terminal services that were disabled for some reason that caused the UI problem and as you say, not sure how this got disabled in the first instance.

Glad we have both found a solution,

Thanks for replying.

It's a problem mainly for XP users, and you fix them by opening the Services utility and in there you make sure that the Terminal Services is set on Automatic and that's indeed started.
