Hi
I would be grateful if you would help me, I paid by visa for the upgrade of avast, payment to digitalriver.com but I never got any activation code to update it. I got another email asking for bank details again.

Also I emailed avast and they had no record of it?

What should i do?

Every so often after the laptop has fully loaded I notice that the Avast system tray icon has an exclamation mark beside it, I check it and find that one of the shields had been disabled, I therefore enable it by taking that option.

Why is it disabling on its own as I've checked for malware and viruses etc and Avast finds nothing.

First you don't say what shield it is, so it is hard to comment.

I would hesitate to say it is disabling itself, more that it is failing to start, but with no information to go on, no one can say with any certainty.

That's because it doesn't tell me which one is disabled, only option I know is to enable from the drop down from system tray icon.

I'll check the components next time it occurs.

Since updating to this version, every time I boot up the web shields are tujrned off (alert).
Switching them on and all OK, but next reboot they are turned off again?
Any ideas please? AJ.
Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed
https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204

I now know that it is only the "behaviour shield" that is turned off, all others being on.
Clearly it doesn't want to be switched on as it turns off again after a couple of minutes.
So I am now ignoring the warning, is this a problem??
If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:
https://goo.gl/4Ptzkf
I have tried both of those fixes and neither worked.
A total clean install of Avast Pro but "I am still vulnerable - some web shilels turned off"???
This after about 2 hours and many reboots!
So frustrating, is there any way I can go back to the previous version before the update?

I am running Windows 7 at the moment.
Since the update my shutdown takes about 4 minutes after logging out.
When I removed Avast Pro it took about 20 seconds???

As I said above it is the behaviour shield causing me problems.
Also by removing the Avast add on from Outlook (I think) it shuts down now as per normal again.
Any advice pse?

Anyone ever notice that Avast never cleans up all it's temporary files ? Like in C:\Program Files\Alwil\Avast\Setup ... there are dozens of empty folders in there with really long stupid names. Most of these should be deleted, but to get rid of them you have to turn off Avast Self Defense ... After avast does an install, it should clean up that messy folder.

Also, on the XP PRO SP3 computer, it sometimes still turns OFF Behavior Shield. .. I think it really is not starting it up all the time, as it seems to stay on after I tell Avast to enable it again. What sub program enables Behavior Shield ?  Perhaps I need to set it's priority level a little bit higher than normal. And why on most computers does Avast decide to load late in the System Tray ? ? ?   You would think the Antivirus would want to be one of the very first programs to load up.

That's actually the result of optimization and intentional - to minimize the effect on Windows startup (i.e. on other programs you may want to launch or be launched early), the start of the Avast UI has been delayed - which includes the tray icon.
However, it doesn't mean that your machine is not protected till then - the main service (AvastSvc.exe) is launched earlier and it doesn't need the UI to be running to scan and block infected files. So the real time protection is running, you just don't know about it for a while i.e. you are protected even when the Avast tray icon is not loaded.

If my guess is correct, these are created by the emergency update check, which creates a uniquely named folder and exe file. Why the avast housekeeping doesn't clear redundant folders and files in the setup folder is beyond me.

So far I have not experienced this on my XP Pro SP3 system from the introduction of avast 17.x.xxxx or the beta builds also. The behaviour shield service is aswidsagent.exe, but avastSvc.exe may also have an influence.

Since the avastUI.exe doesn't have a direct security function more just and interface between the user and program. If you are quick and open the task manager you may well see the avastUI.exe file loaded but the tray icon isn't there yet.

Okay, so I don't need to worry about the tray icon taking time to show up. But now and then the behavior shield does show as not enabled on the Dell Dimension 8200 P4 XP PRO SP3 computer. It does stay enabled after I turn it back on, but I usually use that computer for about 2 hours or so. Not sure if it would go back off after a long on time or not. And others have reported the same issue and have gone through the repair, remove with avast clean and full reinstall with no change. I have tried the repair option once, but have not yet tried the uninstall with clean and reinstall. Seems to have begun with 2291 version (I think)

As I have said I haven't experienced this at all 'so far' so I can't speak from personal experience. As far as I'm aware no one has come up with a consistent workaround. That said avast 17.4.2294, AvastUI > Settings General > Status Monitoring section now has an option to report on the Behaviour Shield, which by default is off, enabling this may make you aware of it being off earlier.

The problem is that this issue isn't consistent, it happens to some but not others, which makes it more difficult to pin down the problem.

On my Win 10 laptop I do not have Behavior Shield Monitoring checked. But it is still enabled in the protection settings. I will have to check on the Dell tomorrow to see how it is set on that computer.
