Cannot update
« on: May 04, 2017, 02:22:18 AM »
I have not been able to update Avast Free on my Windows 10 machine for some time.  When I try, it keeps coming up with "Unknown error" after attempting to connect to servers several times.  I have uninstalled (also using the avastclear tool) and reinstalled the latest download, but the problem persists.

I am getting the same error on Win7 Sp1 after updating from previous ver. [Avast 17.3.2291]

I did an automatic update from within Avast Free itself, after downloading and updating this gave the 'Unknown error' when trying to download 'servers.def.vpx'.
I then downloaded the off-line version of the latest Avast Free [avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe for ver [17.4.2294]].
I installed this and got the same result.
I have checked my firewall and NO IP addresses are being blocked when I manually perform the update of Virus Definitions etc.

See attachment for example of error.

Download the latest update here:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=201729.0

Offline installers:

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup_offline.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup_offline.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup_offline.exe

I don't strongly recommend downloading the online installers they are glitchy and buggy, check first if the digital signatures is properly signed if the signature is invalid don't install

EDIT AND UPDATE:

Download Avast Uninstall utility and do a clean uninstall and reinstall it again using the custom mode.

Attach the logs found on Program Data/Avast Software to clarify and we see the problems with clarity. Thanks
