Sorry, the boot-time scan is a special feature, available in Windows NT/2000/XP only (both Home and Pro version). So, it can't be used on Windows ME.

Hi,

you can see at: http://www.avast.com/i_idt_1018.html, that Boot time scanner is marked with **. And in the bottom of the table there is description:
** Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 only

Boot time scanner is available on NT/2000/XP only. On Windows 2003 - only avast! 4 Server Edition.

SOoooo,
Is there anything I can do to keep my computer safe from viruses when I boot  other than running a scan manually?

If you really want it, you can put a link for:

"C:\<avast folder>\Ashquick.exe" "*STRT-MEM-SHORT"

into your startup folder for a startup scan of memory, memory blocks and startup files once windows and startup programs have been loaded.

Or you can add a link like this:

"C:\<avast folder>\ashQuick.exe" "*MEMORY" "*STARTUP"

where:

"*MEMORY"  memory and memory blocks
"*STARTUP"  startup applications and associated files
The best things in life are free.
