Scheduled Full Scan popup
« on: May 15, 2017, 11:40:16 AM »
I ran a scheduled overnight Full Scan and I saw a popup that said it was only at 99% and the scan was canceled.
But when I looked at the Scan History it shows no virus' found. Which I believe it was a completed scan.

Is this a known bug or normal for this version of Avast?

Is there a solution to fix this popup if it is a bug?

Thanks in advance.

So I guess that there has not been any solution to this problem?

At some point is was fixed (either a micro update or emergency update), but some are still reporting it.

It is a graphical issue, what is reported after the scan completes. You should be able to check the Scan History and or the scan logs and see that it actually completed.

Do you regularly reboot your system ?
As micro updates or emergency updates are likely to be triggered about 15 minutes after a cold start. Some are reporting that it takes a couple of reboots to take effect.

@ jl747, DavidR,

First picture attached is a pop-up window that shows up when the main gui is minimized.

The only time I see this scan 99% error is when avast gui is minimized.  At no other time do I see it.  When it does, scan has completed normally.

All other scans done, when the gui is on the desktop, run and complete normally.

Testing done to isolate when and where the gui error occurs.   ;D

That explains a lot, I rarely run scans other than in beta testing or in response to a forum issue. Then I leave the UI open and carry on with what I was doing, that could explain why I had never experienced this.

I will try this later on my XP system as that is the only on I have 17.4.2294 installed.

I have been able to replicate it.

OK, I opened up my XP system and although I didn't schedule a scan, I started a Quick scan and minimised the scan window.

Watched it all the way through and progress was good, right up to 99% followed by the Scan cancelled on 99%.

Glad you were able to confirm.   ;D

Error, by itself, does not compromise the way avast provides protection, which is why I'd never done a scenario by scenario test for this.

Details matter, and not surprised this one was missed as long as it has been.

I put this down to perspective.  To all, or most of the users complaining of this bug, they would (mostly) minimize the avast gui and continue to work in the same window.  When it is finished, there would be the error.  The difference in perspective is due to the fact most, if not all, believe a manual scan will catch something when a real-time scan will not.

Which is why they do it.

But I would not minimize, I would move to an empty desktop, and allow the scan to complete and so I would never see the error.

Just to be clear, a manual scan does not catch anything 99% of the time.  Just about the only thing a manual scan is good for, imo.

If it does, it is an archived file which cannot do harm until it is opened and run.

The other strange thing, some time after this episode, I can't recall exactly what I did. I possibly hovered over or touched the avast tray icon, but the AvastUI opened up to show the successful conclusion of the scan. Perhaps others may find that if they try to open the AvastUI.
