So... my Avast completely bricked and I couldn't do anything internet related. It would check for Windows Updates, wouldn't get Avast updates, and pages in FireFox would just say it couldn't find the server.

Luckily I already downloaded Avast Clear and the most recent Avast yesterday so I did a clean un-reinstall of Avast.

For now the issues hasn't reoccurred and it seems to have fixed it. We'll see if the fix sticks though.

But now... when I start my Windows 10 laptop... it's bring up a blue screen asking me to choose an operating system and lists Windows 10 and 'Avast Clear Uninstall Utility' (or something like that).

Is there a way to get rid of that? I mean I suppose it's ignorable but it's just a little disconcerting.

If someone could help me out with this I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Did you run Avast Clear, choose the option to boot to safe mode to run Avast Clear ???
If so, when the system boots, select Avast Clear as the boot option so it can finish rem removal process.

I can't remember if I did that or not. I remember it just restarting to safe mode and not making me select an Operating System.

Run avastclear again in safemode and see if it solves the problem.

If not simply change the boot options with msconfig.

I tried Googling it but I can't seem to figure out how to start Windows 10 in Safe Mode.

However when I did a regular restart the blue screen didn't pop up.

This is confusing...

Thanks.

Because it didn't pop up when I did a regular restart I'll only do this if the screen shows up again.

I'll update when I do/if I have to do it.

I did as suggested and the blue screen still popped up during the restart after running Avast Clear with 'Avast Clear Uninstall Utility' as an option for the Operating System.

Also I had to install Avast again.

Hi,

This has nothing to do with the Avast installation but rather a little known bug which happens sometimes with avastclear.

What the OP is saying is, when he/she boots the PC up, there is a dialog to choose the operating system or Avastclear. He gets the choice of Windows 10 or Avastclear which shouldn't happen since he's already ran Avastclear. This bug happens sometimes.

In order to fix this:

You need to open up "System Configuration" > type "msconfig" from Run or Cortana option. Then go the "Boot" tab.

Avast Clear Uninstall Utility or similar will be listed, click it and select the delete option.

Then click "Apply" and "Ok" and the issue will be resolved.

You may be requested to reboot so ensure you do if required.

Hi Eddy,

I did see that too but even if you install Avast again, that boot entry will not go. It has to be done though MSconfig.
