Yep, you reached the end of the internet using Nestscape ;D  Perhaps you can give Mozilla a try.  I like it very much but perfer it's red headed step child, Firebird.

As for your problem.  Try running the mail protection wizard from the Avast program folder and check all future accounts.  Also, you may need to do a manual install.  You can find the instructions in the Avast program help files by doing a search for "IMAP"  Keeps us posted.  Thanks.

Actually I think it's the other way around, I'm pretty sure NS uses the Mozilla "engine".

But it amounts to the same thing, they both work pretty much the same way, allowing for version differences.

Let me hastily add that I'm no expert on Netscape or Mozilla -- I stick to IE, but am keeping an interested eye on Opera.

Way back when I started on the internet (this was before Noah's time, I think), under Win 3.1, Netscape was what came with my ISP's setup kit.  I even discovered that with that 32-bit addon thing I can't remember the name of, I could happily access nearly anything Java-based on the net even though Java was theoretically impossible under 3.1.

I fairly early switched to IE when I discovered that there were a lot of sites I couldn't properly access with Netscape.  In particular, I couldn't download anything from Microsoft, which made Windows Updates kinda tricky.

Ok, ok, now I'm rambling and probably getting off-topic again.  Humble apologies, and 30 self-inflicted lashes with a wet noodle, okay?  ;D

I use Opera too.  Opera is pretty cool.

Netscaper:

Make sure your incoming and outgoing email client servers are set to "localhost".  You may want to change your incoming server to some other port beside 110.  Let's say 1110 instead.

Also, your user name should be "netscaper#imap.mail.netscenter.com"

If that doesn't work try, "netscaper#imap.mail.netscenter.com@localhost"

I downloaded mozilla
its the same as netscape with a few minor differences
but the prob wasnt in avast
it was the netscape web site
it was doin it after i tried all of the suggestions here
thanks for your help!
both net and moz are gecko powered and one will use the others settings they both use the same popup blocker also
no noticable differences for me.
so now i have 2 differ browsers
lol
as for ie, i deleted it cause i didnt like the message'out of memory" all the time and netscape and mozilla seem to be so much faster on my older puter
