New IE vulnerability. Is Avast able to prevent it?

(1/1)

Hello. Today in a forum i visit there was an article about this:
http://www.websensesecuritylabs.com/alerts/alert.php?AlertID=452
I use Firefox and usually i feel secure. i use Avast HE and on Sunday, while I was working on the pc with the connection open, but not browsing, Avast Web Shield started scanning a bbc site. I was very confused and deleted all my cookies and did a safe mode scan. Avast, Ewido, Ad-aware, Spybot and MS Antispyware (all updated) didn't detect anything. Yesterday I found a cookie of bbc.co.uk in my browser and deleted it and blocked it. This morning after I did a boot scan and again Avast didn't detect anything. But opening my firefox browser, after having been on-line a bit, Avast started scanning the bbc.co.uk site again. I NEVER visited a bbc site. Why is that? Do I have to be scared? Because I am now.
I got a screencap . Sorry it's big but i have a big screen. And before that Avast scanned anothe news site. it's an italian site called Ansa. What's happening?  :'(

[edit]I've noticed another thing right now. my homepage is the italian version of Google. The second screecaps shows it. But I just noticed that the first one is an english page. is my browser being hijacted without Avast noticing?  :'(

Hope this is of some help to you. Anyway it is related to the same vulnerability as you mention in your reference article.

thanks! I asked the firefox forum. They replayed that Avast was scanning that page because of the live Bookmarks in my favourites folder. Firefox has in default some live bookmarks and I didn't know about this. So it seems Avast was triggered to scan the page when those bookmarks were being updated. I don't know how live bookmarks work and frankly i don't want them. So i deleted that folder. But I'd like to know more about Avast reaction to this firefox feature so in the future I'll not get a stroke by seeing unknown pages being scanned. Where can I find more info about this? Thanks for the help!
