Periodic avast Vague Message
« on: May 25, 2017, 07:09:05 PM »
In the last 2 or 3 weeks I've periodically been getting this vague message pop up.  I'll first notice an avast button in the Task Bar start flashing for about 2 or 3 seconds and then the vague message popup appears.  I am always connected to the Internet when the popups appear, so it is not due to no connection.

I believe it's been at least 6 times that I've gotten this message.

Any idea what the message is attempting to inform me of before failing?

Hi Chim,

I think this is related to a SecureLine VPN pop-up, but not certain at all this is the case.  If you've installed avast VPN, (it can be removed via Change) it will periodically advertise their VPN module.  See attached .png

The pop-up never meant I was disconnected from the Internet.

No, mchain, I don't have SecureLine VPN installed.  I just have the File Shield, Web Shield and Mail Shield installed.

I think maybe a screenshot of the avast button would be good.

Ok.  Might be related to Software Updater when it runs behind the scene and you are not online atm.

I don't have the Software Updater module installed, mchain.

The interesting thing is that now since I've been on my backup computer the last 3 days I believe it is ... I have not encountered the mysterious vague message.

But, interesting that you should mention Software Updater.  Now that I'm on THIS computer (backup), now I've been seeing a "SoftwareUpdate" process in my Task Bar.  It can't be avast since as I mentioned, I don't have that module installed.  It's possible that it is my Epson printer software.  I could have sworn I told it (Software Updater) to stay out of the equation.  But, software doesn't alway listen.

Anyway, for now I guess I'll put this issue on the backburner since for the meantime, I'll have to be on my backup computer and not on my main computer, the one that was exhibiting the issue.

I see.  OK, I know we'll deal with this later, if need be.
