boot time scans not showing up in scan history?

It has its own log:
C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\report\aswBoot.txt (Vista, Win7 or later OS), check this file using notepad for info on the scan/detections, etc.

Was there a specific reason for running the boot-time scan ?

The boot-time scan settings in avast 17.2.2294 appear to have changed somewhat. Its settings don't appear to be as configurable as it used to be, no sign of the Generate Report option.

I was also wondering why the boot time scans don't show up in the log. I tried to find the reports file but I don't seem to have one? Unless I am looking in the wrong place. I have windows 7. But will it show up in history if something is found?

If you didn't know, ProgramData folder is hidden.

As 'mcain' mentions, windows hides certain folders and depending on your folder options, settings it may still be hidden.
