Hi everyone !

My "small" problem is every morning, at the exit of standby, the firewall of Avast shows me a connexion request for the app "speechmodeldownload.exe".

Of course, as for the other apps ask, it is enough accepted with "memorization" so that the message no longer appears !! But not for "speechmodeldownload.exe", and this is the only recalcitrant !?

I have tried everything !!
Same thing every morning (well on the fact, a morning is not important).
I tried in the Firewall's "application settings" to allow "all ports" and "Default Rule" or "Decide automatically" ... Nothing done.
It's been 2 months since I tested all the settings (I also delete the app in the firewall to see if it recreates normally).

I have 4 times apps "speechmodeldownload.exe" in my windows 10.

* One in C: \ Windows \ SysWOW64 \ Speech_OneCore \ Common of 98 KB
* One in C: \ Windows \ WinSxS \ wow64_microsoft-windows-speechcommon-onecore_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.1198_none_f372e92cacb199ee (same size of 98 KB)
* One in C: \ Windows \ System32 \ Speech_OneCore \ Common of 114 KB
* One in C: \ Windows \ WinSxS \ amd64_microsoft-windows-speechcommon-onecore_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.1198_none_e91e3eda7850d7f3 (same size of 114 KB)

The 4 are declared in my firewall.

In short, do you have the same 2 x 2 "speechmodeldownload.exe" of 2 different sizes in your system (I think yes, 1 for 32bits, 1 for 64bits) ?
And a request by the firewall ?

Thank you to all of you.
PS: Sorry for my por english ;-)

Hi mchain
I know, my problem is old enough, but it is still relevant.
Today I am in Windows 10 - 1709 and Avast firewall still ignores my authorization/cancel for "speechmodeldownload.exe" which tries https access.
I know it's for Cortana.
That does not bother me. But I want to know why Avast Firewall ignores my choice for only "speechmodeldownload.exe".
Of course I do not want automatic firewall choice.
I tried to manually add "speechmodeldownload.exe" in the firewall but the request always appears every morning.
Cheers
JC

Hello
Just in case it will interest someone else:
Yes the "speechmodeldownload.exe" is official part of Cortana.
The Avast Firewall in "Automatic" (not on demand) mode actually adds it to the "Other" part of firewall (without signature, without path, without name: http://nsm07.casimages.com/img/2017/11/22//17112212094422768615381154.png ) which is very curious because it is very different if one tries to add the same "speechmodeldownload.exe" in the list of the firewall which appears signed there and with a path and a name: http://nsm07.casimages.com/img/2017/11/22//17112212094322768615381153.png ...
Yet it's the same file.
In "On Demand" mode, nothing happens, that we Accept or that we Refuse ?!?!

But, if we open directly on the file "speechmodeldownload.exe" located in "C:\Windows\System32\Speech_OneCore\common\" (there is another of different size but same date in "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Speech_OneCore\common\", nothing happens if we open it), and we Accept/Refuse in the firewal, the file" speechmodeldownload.exe "is added in the list "Other" but without signature and there it works, no more message every morning.  :-)
