How are you sure the automatic is not working?

manual update has worked since I have installed avast!.

i'm sure the automatic update is not working because a red pop up appears on my desktop, and because in the log file there are others, new, lines like those I have already posted

I suppose you're not permanent connected to the Internet and you use dial-up.
So, when does this error occur? At any time? After the logon, when you start Windows?
If you're connected, does the same error occur?

that error occurs every time the automatic update starts, also if I am connected to the internet

The update method is: avast checks if there is an available connection each 40 seconds. If there isn't, wait more 40 seconds to check. Checking does not take more than one second and, of course, does not use the Internet band. If there is a connection, check for an update. If there is not any new file to download, wait 4 hours to start checking again. If there is an available update, start it and install it. Again, wait 4 hours to check the next time. Some of this settings could be configurated different, I posted the default values of the avast4.ini file.

So, if you're NOT connected to Internet, the update shouldn't start. You use the word 'also' that makes me think about this.

For sure, if you ARE connected, it should work...

Can you make another test?
Download the servers.def file from here: http://download1.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def
Save it to C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\setup folder, ovewritting the old one.
Start the update again.

I'm not stupid. I know I must connected to the internet to update avast!.

Some my expressions could not be what I want to say. I am not english but I try to write the best english I can do.

so, I am connected to the internet, I am sure. but the automatic update does not work.
And how I have already written, if I run manually the update, it works.

and finally, if the manually update works, the server list can't be damaged

However, also if I think that solution can't works, I am going to try that.

After next automatic update, I can say you If it works.

thanks

Sorry if you consider my text rude. I'm not English too and I have no intention to upset nobody in forums...

Ok, the problem will be IF you run manually you need to wait 4 hours for next automatic check...

and finally, if the manually update works, the server list can't be damaged
Ok. You're right.

It's not easy for me, an user like you, troubleshoot what exactly you're experiencing in your computer  :-[

Yes, but when next automatic update runs, that error occurs.

I know it can't be easy, and i say you (and to all) "thank you for the help"

I'm using both Avast and Jetico, automatic updates are working fine for me.

Do your rules look like theses two "ask" rules for Avast setup? (in Optimal protection>Root>Application Table>Ask User):

Here I sometimes get prompts when the servers IPs are new, but it should work if you edit the rule for outbound connection, and set "any" as remote address.

Yes, I have one of them. One, because when Jetico asked me what I would to do, I handled avast.setup as application trusted zone.

protocol any, event any, local and remote adess any, port any....... it can do every things it want, al,l but not automatic update, only manual updates
