Virtual Memory too low - server malfunction
« on: April 10, 2006, 09:43:54 PM »
Hi!

Avast 4.6.763
- All providers running
- "Test archives" not checked in Simple User Interface
- (can't remember to have unchecked that one)
WinXP SP2 32bit
496MB Ram
Sempron 2800+
Asus K8N-VM

We use a PC to share internet (Windows XP ICS) and today I got complaint Internet didn't work. The page test.jooh.no couldn't be reached and I couldn't remote control the server with VNC.

I activated the monitor on the server and found ashServ.exe had used up all available Virtual Memory (1,6GB), and it had been sitting like this for almost a day (I slept long today, recovering from the flu). It had that error

"Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file."

Is it because it scans things that get uploaded (I had friend upload something, but no file was larger then 250MB)? Is it scanning things while the PC "is not in use?"

Can I turn that off, or set it to skip too large files?

Seems a little strange that a default install should cancel out all my memory like that  ???
