Avast Internet Security blocking my printer
« on: June 23, 2017, 08:44:26 PM »
Hi all:

I believe I need to create either a rule or a "friend" in the Firewall portion of the program, or maybe set something for UPD??  I am very green in dealing with Avast rules. I believe I've found the IP address for my computer that is connected to my router wirelessly.

Can someone provide clear, detailed instructions for resolving my issue? I am tired of disabling Avast for 10 minutes so that I am able to print.

Thank you!!

Thanks Bob. I went to that link, read through it and am able to do as they ask except, I'm not sure I need to add the printer IP address, (if so, where?) or do something else.  I've Clicked open the Application Settings and I find 3 Brother (my printer) items listed. I set the security on all three to wide open.

Can you provide further help? I simply don't understand what to do although I follow directions well!   ;D

Wish I could. I use the free version and the Firewall in Windows 10.
Hopefully one of the other helpers will chime in.

@  Janet7
Whilst I also use the avast free version, does your firewall (or OS) have file/printer sharing enabled ?

I think that I have seen something like this before requiring sharing.

Has your printer ever worked with the avast firewall ?

I assume you have a printer connected to your network:

1. Is your Firewall mode set to Private?
2. Is "Intenet Connection Sharing Mode" enabled via Firewall > Settings > Policies?
Windows 10 Home 64-bit • Avast Free (latest stable version) •  Malwarebytes 4 Premium (On-Demand) • Windows Firewall Control • Google Chrome • LastPass • CCleaner • O&O ShutUp10 •
