As I said, I'm trying every conceivable suggestion from a compilation of threads on this subject: including first disabling Behavior Shield, then completely uninstalling the component. Neither stopped the behavior red "x" ... "You Are Not Protected" ... "UI Failed to Load." Not that I would want to live without Behavior Shield as I consider it rather important.

Since I have now pretty much spent three full days trying to resolve this without any success whatsoever I suspect it's time to move on to a different AV program, which makes me incredibly unhappy after 12+ years of reliability.

Try this:

Windows key + R key pressed together.

Enter in the RUN Box services.msc

Scroll down to Terminal Service and start (run) that service.  Set it so it automatically starts in the Properties window when Windows starts.  Close the Services window when done and reboot.

This only applies to XP3.

THANK U  8) my AVAST works now - good help !

Greetings from Berlin (Germany)

The problem in W10 seems to be a bit different. I have this problem too. The service crashes every 10 to 20 minutes. After several reinstalls (with and without the cleanup tool) and one experimental install into a fresh W10 VM that was busted as well, I just gave up and uninstalled my AIS and am running only with Malwarebytes (and before someone asks, yes, I also tried with Malwarebytes uninstalled, several times).
After going through the service logs, the only suspicious entry is one saying idsagent stopped responding, which roughly corresponds with the time the avast service crashes.

No, that's only a similar name, it actually points to avast Behavior Shield.

The Behavior shield is a know problem that's supposed to be fixed by release 17.6.
I need to start it virtually after every reboot but once started remains running.

Windows 10 with Avast Premier. I noticed the UI was perfectly clean, white, no text or graphics. I rebooted and it won't load at all. It will show up in the "show hidden icons" section, but on mouseover, it disappears. Checked services.msc and it is running there, but no GUI. When I look at active processes, only the Behavior Shield shows as active.

Based on what I'm reading here, I should try a fresh install. I think.

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:

Worked like a charm. I followed your instructions and downloaded the Premier offline installer and the Avast clean tool, just in case.

Thank you for your help. I promise not to be an idiot next time. Repair...so easy.

Well after enabling remote desktop services to automatic on start up and running I am still having the UI failed t o load error continuously  :-\

So enabling remote desktop services (terminal services) has no effect on the error.

Any other possible solutions?

I must ask when the UI failed to load error happens and it states "i am unprotected" is the genuinely the case?

As iv'e read the UI failing to load does not stop avast security from defending threats and working correctly? its just a UI error.

So basically even when i see the red cross and it says you are unprotected I am still protected?

So it seems the issue on Windows 10 really was caused by Behavior Shield, as 17.6 with the behav fix runs fine again.

??? ??? ??? The problem with Behavior Shield was it not starting with the rest of Avast's Components.
When that happened, you needed to start it manually. That was one of the problems addressed in the latest beta release.

Not sure how it has been addressed in the 17.6 beta? as I have clean installed avast and installed the beta 17.6 using the online installer and the UI failed to load error occurred instantly

So to confirm am now running beta 17.6 after using clean install utility and error has occurred 5 times in 10 minutes and continues to fail to load.

What i've noticed under the resource monitor is avast launches running and then the avast services show stopped even when though the services are set to running and automatic start up. (see screenshot below)

Im by no means a computer expert but thought this might give someone a clue as where the issue lies.

Ive ran a full system scan and have no viruses and no malware after scanning with malware bytes.

Have used avast for years and never had such a frustrating issue
