I've had a couple of recent versions, including this one, where the offline (free version) installer did not work on a 32-bit Vista system with the network disabled.  Failed due to being unable to write some sort of statistics back home.  Hard to consider something that does that an offline installer.  However, this does not happen on my primary 64-bit Windows 10 Anniversary Edition system.  -dwh

XP and Vista need to be on-line even when doing the off-line installer.

Misleading name then for the installer.

Misleading name then for the installer.
More like an antiquated Operating System that can't execute instructions without online help.
Update the old OS and you problems go away. Continue to use the old OS and ge the help needed to install the program by staying on-line.
There is a reason these Operating Systems are not supported Microsoft and by many companies any more.

Dev-Info: Offline installation is officially no longer supported on Vista and XP because new CEF (only one boundled in offline installer because of size) is not supported there and the online installer will download the correct CEF version.

The off-line installer will also download it, but the user has to be connected to the internet when installing it.

I use the off-line installation file a lot on my XP system, but I still connected to the internet and it isn't (or hasn't been) an  issue.

True, but why download the big installer, when the little one works as well.

Mainly because we are seeing the forums littered with various connection problems with the on-line installer. Not to mention having downloaded the full off-line installation file, don't discard it, save it, if for any reason you need it in the future.

I am having a terrible time getting onto most websites since updated to the new version.  Most of the time it just scrolls and scrolls until I disable the shields and then reload the tab.  Once I am connected to the site I can enable the shields again.  I know this is a risky way to log onto sites, but it is either that or I won't get into most sites.  Is there something that I can change in the settings to stop this from happening, and if not, is there a way for me to revert to the previous version where I did not have this problem?  Thank you.

You don't mention what your OS is ?
There are topics in the forums that relate to people using Windows XP & Vista having connection problems.
If you are using either of these OSes try un-checking the scan HTTPS sites in the Web Shield settings.  You may be able to stop the scanning of https, reload the page and enable https scanning again.

AV Service failed to load after using automatic update from previous version.
The previous version gave me trouble when surfing the internet
so I usually turned off the web shield (after trying re-installing avast so many times)
Day by day avast is becoming more hectic (sorry)
but its a fact.

Having the same problem on Vista also, but for me the problem just started today, my understanding is the last update was 6/26? Ticking off the HTTPS scanning does solve the problem, but am concerned how much that will leave my system unprotected?
