Hello.

I am one of the contributors to an open source game engine and game creation IDE called Adventure Game Studio (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk).

For a long time we had reccuring issues of Avast blocking games created with our IDE as malicious programs. It seems like last year this problem became more severe, number of people complaining that they either cannot run any game created with AGS, or make their owns, because anytime they try to run them Avast prevents it either by detecting a virus, or saying that the file is suspicious and needs to be checked (every time).

What complicates the issue is that engine is still in active development, and its executable code changes often. Also, for historical reasons (the engine is pretty old) by default some or all of the game data is appended to game exe (at least for Windows version) and being read actively during run. I guess this may also make antiviruses do not like what the program is doing.

My question is, what could be the optimal course of action here from our side? How feasible it would be to prevent or limit false positives, considering specifics mentioned above?

We may provide both full code of our program and compiled engine (everything is free and open sourced) for study.
For instance, here is our repository: http://github.com/adventuregamestudio/ags
The download links to recent stable version: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/ags/

Personally, I do not use Avast, so I cannot give any more details, but I can redirect people who do here and ask them to post their stories (that is - what kind of virus Avast detected, etc).
