segfault v1.0.5 fc5 x86_64
« on: April 16, 2006, 07:02:21 PM »
Hi,

I just installed avast 1.0.5 on a FC4 i386 laptop and a FC5 x86_64 workstation.

No problems on the laptop
kernel  2.6.15-1.1831_FC4 i686

I used the rpm install.  Just install add the license and go.  (I am using a license for the windows version if it makes a differance.  It accepted it OK).

But on the workstation avast  segfaults amd 4200 X2
kernel 2.6.16-1.2080_FC5 x86_64

I tried setting the AVAST_PREFIX variable per other posts to this forum but then avast simple does nothing for a minute then reports a argument too long message.

[alan@pathfinder ~]$ avast -n pvr-upgrade.log
/usr/bin/avast: line 150: 16347 Segmentation fault      $AVAST_PREFIX/bin/$programname $*
[alan@pathfinder ~]$ echo $AVAST_PREFIX

[alan@pathfinder ~]$ whereis avast
avast: /usr/bin/avast /usr/share/man/man1/avast.1.gz
[alan@pathfinder ~]$ AVAST_PREFIX=/usr; export AVAST_PREFIX
[alan@pathfinder ~]$ echo $AVAST_PREFIX
/usr
[alan@pathfinder ~]$ avast -n pvr-upgrade.log
/usr/bin/avast: line 150: /usr/bin/avast: Argument list too long

avastgui fails the same way.

I did not need to set AVAST_PREFIX on the FC4 system.

I can provide a strace output if it helps.  Let me know.

Thanks
Alan Anderson

Me too... I have no installation problems. I've converted the rpm to deb and installed in Ubuntu without problems. The rpm worked on SUSE too. The Windows license is not the trouble here. The Linux is the same of the Windows one.
Sorry, can't help more... I'm a beginner with Linux  :-[
