Resident Scanner Won't Start
« on: April 18, 2006, 06:43:34 PM »
Everything was running after I first installed 4.x home on my old Win98SE system. I wanted to do a defrag so I right-clicked on the globe a disabled protection. The globe won't appear anymore and I can't turn it back on. I turn it on during a scan, but it goes off again afterwards.
I tried ashdisp to get the globe back, but nothing happens.

Many thanks for your help.

Do you have any other security software installed, adaware, spybot S&D, etc. ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this. However, I'm not sure if this option is available to win98se ?

If not, try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
