Hi Patrick2,
Have you tried asking in the Firestorm help group yet? I haven't had time.
I also use Firestorm and have a very similar problem. After about 5 minutes the frame rate starts to drop and I get that wonderful lag and a very high packet loss. This started happening after the "updates" this spring, with the ugly Avast UI changes.
Sadly, the only fix I've come up with is to disable all shields (until reboot) before launching Firestorm. Then rush to 'Enable ALL' after closing Firestorm. So, I dare not open a browser anymore with Firestorm running.I haven't tried any other viewers but I expect the problem will be the same.
I should be looking for a better Anti-virus, but I stupidly paid up until 2019.
Relatively clean install back in May 2017
Maybe the answer is to go into avast Settings > Troubleshoot > Restore factory defaults > and press the "Reset Now" button. I'm not saying to do it since I don't know what the outcome will be, but I bet all the nag screens and sounds return, including destruction of any other custom settings you may have set.
Unless someone from avast tells me that's the fix, I personally wouldn't do it.
Would Excluding in Behavior shield help any?
That's a very good question. I wish I had the time to play mad scientist with this junk called avast.
I don't know how much risk I'm putting myself in by disabling all shields. Maybe I should disable the avast firewall completely and enable the Windows one? As a test? (You need a degree anymore to operate Avast... and I thought Blender was hard
)
With any luck another Firestorm user will see this and have all the answers.
Good luck getting any answers out of Avast.
They simply don't care! I HATE avast anymore!
Good luck, to both of us.
