Game Performance Issue with 17.5 latest version
« on: July 20, 2017, 09:01:26 PM »
Hi All

Game Peformance issue frame rate basically,  with Windows Defender activated as a test, i'm getting great framerates, with Avast installed i'm seeing less than 10 on the frame rate in the game, laggyness, does the exclusions not working in Avast 17.5 version?  or if they do work, is there something i'm missing, I use Global exclusions to exclude Firestorm viewer (Secondlife)

Windows 10 Pro  x64 15063.483
8gb of ram
AMD FX 8310 8 Core
250GB SSD boot drive
2tb storage drive

Relatively clean install back in May 2017

Any advice is appreciated, should I do an Avast clean install with Offline installer?

Would Excluding in Behavior shield help any?

Hi Patrick2,

Have you tried asking in the Firestorm help group yet?  I haven't had time.  :-[

I also use Firestorm and have a very similar problem.  After about 5 minutes the frame rate starts to drop and I get that wonderful lag and a very high packet loss.  This started happening after the "updates" this spring, with the ugly Avast UI changes.

Sadly, the only fix I've come up with is to disable all shields (until reboot) before launching Firestorm. Then rush to 'Enable ALL' after closing Firestorm.  So, I dare not open a browser anymore with Firestorm running.

I haven't tried any other viewers but I expect the problem will be the same.
I should be looking for a better Anti-virus, but I stupidly paid up until 2019.   >:(

Maybe the answer is to go into avast Settings > Troubleshoot > Restore factory defaults > and press the "Reset Now" button.  I'm not saying to do it since I don't know what the outcome will be, but I bet all the nag screens and sounds return, including destruction of any other custom settings you may have set.
Unless someone from avast tells me that's the fix, I personally wouldn't do it.

That's a very good question. I wish I had the time to play mad scientist with this junk called avast.

I don't know how much risk I'm putting myself in by disabling all shields.  Maybe I should disable the avast firewall completely and enable the Windows one? As a test?  (You need a degree anymore to operate Avast... and I thought Blender was hard  :D)

With any luck another Firestorm user will see this and have all the answers.

Good luck getting any answers out of Avast.
They simply don't care! I HATE avast anymore!

Good luck, to both of us.

I've been observing weird performance as well. Not sure if it's avast! related, but I'm testing with MSE now.

I raise a question some time ago as to a possible conflict between the Windows 10 Game Mode settings
and the Avast Game Mode Component.
Unfortunately I've never received any reply fro Avast.  :(

Clean install of Avast 17.5 done, Game excluded, Game mode isn't enabled in Windows 10 Pro x64 or Avast Game mode feature not installed,  Firestorm Secondlife viewer added to Behavior Shield exclusion as well, so far game performance isn't too bad now, frame rate isn't dropping to 0.9 or lower, so maybe that is the possible solution, but still testing as only clean installed again this morning

I'd now try the Windows Gaming settings and see if that improves your experience.
If not, simply disable it again.

I actually don't use either. Both disabled/removed.
