BTW if you want the portable versions from Piriform look for the "builds page" link at the bottom of each program's main download page.
Do you know if it makes a practical difference if the 32-bit portable program or the 64-bit portable program is used on a 64 bit system? (Since both are compatible.)

Wouldn't have hurt to answer that.

The portable versions have both options available because they are portable. You might be using it on a 32 or 64 bit system. The 64 bit version, probably, will not work on a 32 bit system.

As for difference in speed: the 64 bit version should work faster on a 64 bit system but whether this is noticeable or of practical value likely depends on the particular task. Why not test it yourself and find out?

The answer may be found in CCleaner FAQ or forum. Anyone tried that?

This is unexpected from me, but good for business  :). By the way, which disk defragmenter is the best the window's own defragmenter or from Piriform file and disk defraggler?

Defraggler by a country mile but you don't really need to use a defragger, at least not regularly, with modern Windows OS, particularly the primary drive.

You should not be using a defragger at all on SSDs or flash drives of course.

Can we now get back on topic ?
Other off topic questions should be asked in their own topic. Thanks

You already have a topic on this. Your reply has nothing to do with this topic.

Greetings All.  :)

Now Avast are the new masters of Piriform, I'm hoping CCleaner stays untouched.

Read the avast Blog (edit typo) article, link in the first post of the topic, I think that is pretty clear.

thanks David and Bob,
I had already seen the article, here and on the Piriform forum.
it all sounds very rosy and happy at the moment, like all new mergers are.
I guess we'll know in due time how things pan out.

You're welcome.

Having used avast free AV for over 13 years, I have seen a few companies bought into (excuse the pun) the avast fold.  For the most part, avast don't want to upset the original users of that companies software as it would potentially be loosing customers for its other products.

agreed.
taking AVG as a recent example, they (Avast) have left that alone.
