Waiting 10 minutes after connecting
« on: April 19, 2006, 05:16:58 PM »
Hello,

I installed AVAST4 Home Edition. All is fine except that when I connected my modem to my Web Provider, my computer is lock for about 10 minutes. During this period, the light of the hard disk is flashing and I cannot do anything on keyboard and mouse.

After about 10 minutes, all come back normal. All keys that I have touched or clicks I have done with mouse are executed.

Before installing Avast, I have not these problems.

I have a Pentium 4 with Windows XP Home Edition, in French. After installing AVAST, I have scanned all my computer. AVAST found WIN32:CTX witch I removed.
And nothing else.

Can you help me please ?

Thank you very much.

Michel from Québec

For any reason, could you have a keylogger in your computer?

After installing AVAST, I have scanned all my computer. AVAST found WIN32:CTX witch I removed.
Michel, it will be better if we have more info: name and path of the infected file, did you sent the file to Chest or just deleted it?
Did you run avast! at boot time?
Do you have any other antivirus or security program in this computer?

Hello,

Keylogger: I think no

Win32:ctx: First, I sent it to Chest and the next day, I deleted it.

After installing Avast, I re-booted and I run AVAST immedialely for all my computer.

I don't have any other antivirus on my computer. Only the Firewall of Windows XP.

Thank you very much
Michel

Welcome to the forums, michel.    :)

Before having avast! as your computer's anti-virus program, what anti-virus program did you use? Or has your computer never had an anti-virus program before avast?

Before Avast, I used Panda Antivirus Free Edition.

I un-installed it completely before installing avast.

Thank you very much.

Towart, it's not easy to guess by the info you could collect... Maybe we need to know if any process is taking all your CPU (and RAM) resources...
Using Process Explorer (www.sysinternals.com) you can export a list of them.
Why don't you donwload, install, update and run www.ewido.net to see if it discovers anything else than avast?

Hello,

When you asked about a Keylogger yesterday, I tought about a progr who I have installed : WINKEY (to program keys on keyboard in combination with Windows Key).

So I simply removed Winkey all come back fine.

There is not any freezing anymore when I connect to WEB.

I will use also the 2 aps you mentionned yesterday.

Thank you very much for your help.

WinKey is not a keylogger as far I know...
Anyway, if it worked... let's be happy  8)
