Problem at startup
« on: April 16, 2006, 07:47:11 PM »
Hello

I have avast 4.7 version and for some days I have a littel problem wen I start my computer.
Avast tells me that the file can't be found ( in Avast log, I have several "An error has occured when attemting to update. Please check the logs").

If I want to update virus database or program, avast tells me all is up to date.

Can you tell me where this problem comes from ?

I have Windows XP SP2 French Home Edition.

Which is your firewall? Anyone besides XP internal one?
If you remove avast entries from the firewall and start an update, will the firewall ask for permition again?
When the errors occur? Just after boot of at any time you try to update? Can you check in the avast! logs the time of the error?
Does manually updating bring any trouble or it's working fine?

What file can't be found ?
What are the entries in the Log ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn't work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.

I've downloaded the latest version and installed it.
After installation is completed, I've rebooted my PC ( just like Avast told me ). But when avast was launched, I 've had the same message : file can't be found ).

In the log, the error message is always the same :
SYSTEM   1248   Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code is 0x00000002, dwRes is 00000002.
SYSTEM   1248   An error has occured while attempting to update. Please check the logs.

Can you help me ?

Sincerely.

Did you uninstall the old version and reboot before installing the latest 4.7 version ?

This windows error code 02 is 'The system cannot find the file specified.'

Try the avast repair as I suggested previously.

I haven't uninstalled previous version, but I have updated Avast.

Today : no problem. Virus database correctly updated.

OK, your comment, "I've downloaded the latest version and installed it." threw me somewhat, rather than saying you used the update program function.
