Virus Alert Icon blinking
« on: April 20, 2006, 10:57:23 PM »
Hello,

I use AVAST Home Edition with success since 2 Years. Many thanks to developers.

Last week we experienced a Virus Attack handled with success by Avast .
The infected files are now in Quarantine and if we run a scan today there are no more alerts...
BUT
- the Virus Alert icon remains blinking Red and Green
- and from time to time a window "Your computer is infected / critical system error" appears.

All these symptoms are located under one user account. Using another user account there are no problems.

Many thanks for giving me the commands to stop these blinking icon and message.

Hello,

I just run the Trendmicro scan...
Only Microsoft XP failures are detected...
There are no more spywares or virus found..

Another idea ??

This doesn't appear to be an avast alert, it doesn't have a green and red virus alert only the standard pop-up very noisy alert. A screenshot of the alert would help.

I believe this is likely to be some scumware ad (possibly Windows Messenger, not MSN Messenger) trying to get you to download the solution to your problem and when you do you are likely to have more problems to contend with.

Shoot the Messenger, Windows Start, Run, type services.msc and click enter. At the Services Pop-up, find Messenger, double click it and if Messenger is running, click Stop, once stopped, select Disabled in the Startup type: and finally click OK.

Welcome to the forums, zornrider.    :)

Below is a screenshot on how to do what David suggested in case you have not done this before.

Can you post the name and the path of the infected file?
Is there any virus name on the message, I mean, besides the green/red panel, are you seeing a window with a virus alert?

Hello again,

After a complete night without ADSL disconnection (thanks to my ISP (sigh))
Trend micro find TROJ_ZLOB malware...

I am now looking for cleaning my PC.

After cleaning, I will report you if the icon blinking disappeared

Hello,

After a long fight (2 hours) against the TROJ_ZLOB.GEN virus
the blinking icon and the pop-up "system infected" disappeared.

The pop-up window was leading to a site called SPYWAREQUAKE
with a free on line virus scanner but of course the correction tool
was available only with payment.
For a moment I was thinking that it was an Avast Product...sorry guys

However I am disappointed that AVAST cannot detect or avoid this Trojan attack.
Many thanks to put the correction of this kind of  virus
in the wish-list of the new update.

Many thanks too for the people
who read my question
and post some suggestions

This trojan isn't doing anything harmful, it is trying to trick you into buying scumware, it isn't a virus. I hope you have shot the messenger as suggested as this is often used to send you a message that looks official, suggesting your system is infected and giving a link to scan of buy the scumware.

avast! is primarily an anti-virus, that also detects some of the more serious malware, but one program alone is unlikely to protect from everything, adware, spyware, scumware, etc.

If you haven't already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.
1. Ad-Aware
2. Spybot Search and Destroy
3. Spywareblaster Don't install this until you are clean.
4. Ewido Security Suite
