Can't browse web or access email
« on: April 24, 2006, 07:16:59 PM »
Hi, I'm new to using Avast.  Once I installed the software, I noticed that my Internet Explorer can't access any websites and my email (Eudora) connection is timing out.  The only way I can do these two things is stopping the On-Access Protection.  I am also using Windows Firewall.

Is there a setting somewhere I am not finding that will solve this problem?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, Caity.    :)

Try searching the forum with the search button at the top of the page. Searce for either ... can't browse ... or ... IE. You should be able to find the info you need as this has been covered many times.

Which version of avast are you using?

Into the firewall settings (if you use any besides XP SP2 internal one), the following programs should be allowed to connect:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable)

I also cannot browse unless I turn off Web Shield. Using the latest 4.7 version.

I do NOT have a firewall active.
