Thank you!  I do not know much about this system. It was my brothers and we got it when he passed away.

This is a direct copy from the User Manual available here (from Gateway); this should help get you to have the USB drive as a Boot Drive and we can see what the FRST scan shows us.  I'm thinking that steps 3 & 4 will boot the system from the RUFUS drive you made so that you can then run FRST.

Well, I was able to change it to where the Boot Menu is enabled.  When I click F12 it brings up Windows Boot Manager and there is no way to select anything other than Windows boot manager.  Being patient now and trying to let it do it's thing.  After downloading FRST again the Gateway is going to accept it.  Going to run now.

OK. Progress!!!!  I have noticed that Avast has been disabled.  I am going to guess that it is ok to enable and update it so will do that now.  Well, nevermind about enableing and updating Avast.  This is the message I get when I click on Avast  "UI Failed to load.  This is really embarring. AV Service is not responding"  Then my choices are Exit and Restart Service.   Not doing a thing untill I know for sure that is from Avast and is safe.

Thank you so much!!!!

Please try uninstalling and re-installing Avast.  That should let you enable it and then have it scan the system.

Uninstalled and Reinstalled.  Ran scan....
No Viruses found,
vulnerable software found (resovled)
No bad browser add-ons found
No network issues found
Unprotected sensitive documents found (declined upgrade)
No conflicting antivirus found
Weak passwords discovered (declined upgrade)

Should I now try to run a MalWare Bytes scan?

No issues found with MalWareBytes.  I don't think hubby wants to upgrade to Win10.

As far as I know it is ok.  I will tell my husband to start using it and we will see for sure.  I did not have any other problems.

Thank you so much for all of your help!!!

Understand about not wanting Win10; no worries there.

Take your time; it looks like the issues have corrected themselves so we just need to know if there is anything else before we clean our tools off the system.
