Avast treats Auslogics Defrag as Malware
« on: August 12, 2017, 10:38:47 PM »
Very recently my Avast has quarantined my Auslogics defrag as malware, even states it has a virus and gives the virus a name. Took the program clean off my desktop without warning when I started to use it.

I tried to download Auslogics defrag again, but immediately the download started, Avast stopped it.

What is going on ?

Most likely a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program), because of additional programs (and/or toolbars) that Auslogics has been "pushing" in recent years.
If that's confirmed as the reason, you can add it to your list of exclusions if you wish to keep it.
Lenovo T530 laptop, Intel Core i5-3320M @ 2.60 GHz, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro SP1 (64-bit), avast! 17 Free, MBAM3 Pro, Windows Firewall, MVPS HOSTS file, OpenDNS Family Shield, Zemana AntiLogger Free, SpywareBlaster, IE11 & Firefox [both using WOT (IE set to WARN, FF set to BLOCK)], WinPatrol PLUS, uBlock Origin, MBAE, MCShield, CryptoPrevent, SAS (on-demand scanner).
[I believe computer-users who sandbox (Sandboxie) are acting prudently.]

all malwarebytes tools (Malwarebytes , adwcleaner , jrt) already see (a lot of) auslogics tools as malicious.

I don't know fella's - I downloaded Auslogics Defrag free without a hitch today. It all installed perfectly with no yelp from Avast.

Its one of those computer hiccups we all get. I am sorry to trouble you, but yesterday Avast blocked it and today Avast liked it. Well, you can'y win 'em all can you ?

All I can do is thank you for responding and leave with - Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay

False positive one day cleared up via VPS update so now it's OK again. That sometimes happens. Stay safe. :)
